Statement from Northeast School Governance Council

Dear Northeast Family and Friends,

To say that the past election season has been tumultuous would be an understatement. The outcome has incited heated conversations at home and in the classroom. Northeast recognizes that we are an elementary school and our job is not to promote one political belief over another. However, at this point in time, we think it is appropriate to remind ourselves of our community’s values and the school’s mission statement.

“Northeast Elementary School empowers every student by providing an exemplary educational foundation that includes critical and creative thinking, social-emotional learning, physical education, music, and the arts, in a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.”

Whatever your political views, this is a time to pause and reaffirm our shared commitment to learning, to our diversity as a strength, and to our inclusive community as core Northeast values. We will continue to have zero-tolerance for bullying or disrespect towards any member of our community, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or any other perceived difference. We will continue to promote kindness and empathy towards everyone. Our mission and these beliefs will remain a beacon as we move forward in the coming months and years and will guide us all in decisions regarding your child’s elementary school experience.

Sincerely,

The Northeast School Governance Council

November, 2016
