All School PTO Meeting Handout

Thank you to everyone that attended our all school PTO meeting and parent seminar last week! If you were unable to attend, you can view the slide deck handout here.

Parents and others who care about public education in Stamford need to advocate for the Superintendent’s proposed operating budget to be fully supported by the Boards of Education, Finance, and Representatives. It’s important for parents to attend committee and board meetings and to contact their elected officials to express support for the budget.  Call or Email your Board of Representatives Members to express your support.  Thank you in advance for your support and willingness to be an active participant in the 2024-25 budget process.

All School PTO Meeting with special guest Evelyn Bilias Lolis, PhD, Fri 1/26

Please join the Northeast PTO for an all-school conversation and parent seminar this Friday, January 26th at 8:30am in the Northeast Auditorium with our special guest, Evelyn Bilias Lolis, PhD!
  • Learn about all the great activities we have planned for the second half of the school year
  • Find out how to stay informed and engaged in the BOE proposed operating budget process
  • Discover how Northeast could be directly impacted if the proposed budget isn’t approved
  • Participate in an engaging seminar with Dr. Evelyn entitled, “Critical & Compassionate Communication in Parenting: How our talk turns into self-talk and why it matters”
How adults communicate with children during the developmental period correlates highly with a child’s developing self-talk, or the internal dialogue they carry with them (i.e., the little voice in their head) that ultimately lays the foundation for their emerging self-esteem, self-confidence, and sense of worth and belonging in the world.  The journey of parenting is filled with the management of numerous high stake/critical conversations that impact a child’s assessment of themselves, their environment, and the safety in which they allow themselves to explore, learn, relate to others, and live a full life.

This seminar will provide parents of the NE school community with tangible skills in:

*   Recognizing and anticipating critical conversations
*   Understanding the developmental milestones of the childhood period (early child, school-age, tween)
*   Empathetic listening
*   Exercises for responding compassionately while still maintaining core family values and ethos
*   Similarly teaching children how to respond compassionately to others

Evelyn Bilias Lolis, PhD is the Dean for the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) at Fairfield University and a Northeast parent! We hope you will join us!

*Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can begin promptly at 8:30AM

**A Google Meet link will be sent out via REMIND this week to join the meeting virtually if you are unable to attend in person.
