Please join the Northeast PTO and Evelyn Bilias Lolis, PhD, on Friday, January 26th at 8:30am in the Northeast Auditorium for an engaging discussion on “Critical & Compassionate Communication in Parenting: How our talk turns into self-talk and why it matters”.
How adults communicate with children during the developmental period correlates highly with a child’s developing self-talk, or the internal dialogue they carry with them (i.e., the little voice in their head) that ultimately lays the foundation for their emerging self-esteem, self-confidence, and sense of worth and belonging in the world. The journey of parenting is filled with the management of numerous high stake/critical conversations that impact a child’s assessment of themselves, their environment, and the safety in which they allow themselves to explore, learn, relate to others, and live a full life.
This seminar will provide parents of the NE school community with tangible skills in:
* Recognizing and anticipating critical conversations
* Understanding the developmental milestones of the childhood period (early child, school-age, tween)
* Empathetic listening
* Exercises for responding compassionately while still maintaining core family values and ethos
* Similarly teaching children how to respond compassionately to others
Evelyn Bilias Lolis, PhD is the Dean for the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) at Fairfield University and a Northeast parent. We hope you will join us!
