GreenWorks Update– Northeast is Going Green!

The Northeast GreenWorks Parent Team spent all of September teaching students how to recycle lunchroom waste. Now students are doing it on their own with the help of GreenWorks Student Team Ambassadors. Wearing green capes & sashes, specially-chosen students encourage proper sorting and recycling practices in the cafeteria. In the month of September alone, students rescued 300 lbs of food and 400 lbs of fluid from the waste stream. WOW!

Classroom recycling has improved as well. Northeast increased its weekly recycle rate from just 21% in the beginning of the year to 43% in the last week of September!

GreenWorks Teachers, Parents, and Students have kept our new School Garden growing. Teachers can take their students to the courtyard garden to read, write, and explore. The garden now has 8 raised beds filled with winter vegetables and bulbs. As we head into the cooler months, GreenWorks is searching for funding for additional raised beds to allow more teachers and classrooms to take on a bed of their own in the Spring.

Want to get in on this progress? Email Alicia Teitelbaum or Maya Noren if you’d like to join the GreenWorks parent team or help get your child’s classroom involved. THANK YOU!
