4/28: Northeast Annual Plant Sale & Spring Festival!

This year’s Annual Plant Sale is going to be bigger and better than ever! It’s growing (just like all the lovely plants that will be for sale) into a community-wide Spring Festival. In addition to the beautiful plants that are always on sale (think flowering annual bedding & potted plants, decorative patio pots, 8” and 10” hanging baskets, bouquets, succulents and cactuses), there will also be TWO bouncy castles, a concession stand, face painting, arts & crafts stands and more.

The Plant Sale & Spring Festival will be on Saturday, April 28th– RAIN OR SHINE– from 10am- 3pm in the Northeast front parking lot. In case of rain, the party will move to the gym & cafeteria. No admission fee, but activities & plants will cost. Don’t miss out on this celebration of the season and support Northeast at the same time! Please download the festival flyer and share it with your friends & neighbors!

Since this event is open to the greater community, we definitely need volunteers to help make the day a success. Please consider signing up for a shift to help with sales & activities on the 28th. Please contact Katie Butler or Beth Knight with any questions. THANK YOU!

4th Grade Parents- Do Not Miss the 4/25 Nature’s Classroom Meeting!

All 4th grade parents should save the evening of 4/25 for an important informational meeting about Nature’s Classroom. Next year, your 5th graders will be participating in the amazing Nature’s Classroom program. Nature’s Classroom is a residential environmental education program that helps build community and confidence in kids through a 3-night overnight camping trip. Our 5th graders will be going to the Silver Bay, NY camp in late November 2018. They will take day hikes up Uncas Cliff–  the inspiration for James Fenimore Cooper’s dramatic cliff scene in “The Last of the Mohicans.” They’ll participate in STEM-based classes both indoors and outdoors. And, for many kids, it will be their first solo trip away from home and maybe their introduction to the great outdoors.

Please join the 5th grade teachers Wednesday, 4/25 at 6:30pm at Northeast to see pictures from past trips and to find out more about Nature’s Classroom. The trip is NOT fully paid for by the SPS budget and there is quite a bit of fundraising that parents need to do to help pay for the Nature’s Classroom experience. The meeting will discuss costs and how parents can help make this trip happen for ALL students.

4/16: NEPTO Welcomes Children’s Book Author Patricia Polacco

NEPTO is pleased to bring renowned children’s author and illustrator Patricia Barber Polacco to Northeast on April 16. Ms. Polacco will meet with all grades throughout the day.  Ms. Polacco has dyslexia and as a child found relief by expressing herself through art. She endured teasing and hid her disability until a school teacher recognized that she could not read and began to help her. Her book Thank You, Mr. Falker is Polacco’s retelling of this encounter and its outcome. She also wrote such books as Mr. Lincoln’s Way and The Lemonade Club. Patricia has earned numerous awards and has written and illustrated a vast array of children’s books. We are delighted to welcome her to Northeast!
