10/3: Nature’s Classroom Info Meeting for 5th Grade Parents, (5:30pm, Media Center)

We know the 5th graders have a lot of questions about Nature’s Classroom, we are sure you as parents do, too!  Join the 5th Grade Teachers on Wednesday, October 5th at 5:30pm for an information session about this year’s November 6-9th Nature’s Classroom Trip. Teachers will answer your questions about the logistics & cost of the trip. Fundraising opportunity and scholarships will also be discussed. The 5th Grade Teachers look forward to seeing you there. 9/24-10/1: ‘Tis the Season for Mums- Support Northeast & Get Festive!

It’s Fall, y’all! And everyone knows that Fall means decorative gourds, pumpkin spice lattes, and MUMS! The PTO is now offering locally CT grown 8″ and 12″ mums for sale via preorder through October 1st. Pick up will be available during the All School Conversation & PTO meeting on October 3rd, as well as before and after school on October 4th. Please be sure to preorder as there will only be a few extra for sale at pick-up times.
8″ Mums are $8/each, $15/2, or $25/4. 12″ Mums are $20/each or $35/2. Shades vary, but the color selection includes white, yellow, red/maroon, orange/rust, pinkish/lavender. Mums are delivered in decorative plastic pots.
Download a preorder form now and return it to the main office by end-of-day Monday, 10/1.  All proceeds support NEPTO and enrichments at our school. Please contact Beth Knight with any questions.

Northeast’s Got Talent! Talent Show Rehearsals Begin 9/25 & 9/27

Calling all young performers in grades 3-5! If your child enjoys singing, dancing, telling stories, doing magic, playing instruments, being an emcee, or anything else talented and entertaining, encourage them to participate in this year’s Talent Show! The show takes place on the evening of November 16th, but rehearsals start next week! If your 3rd, 4th or 5th grader would like to be a part of the fun, please be sure that they attend one of the two rehearsals scheduled for 9/25 and 9/27 from 3-4:30 pm in the Auditorium. 9/28: Nature’s Classroom Info Meeting, 10:15am

A representative from Nature’s Classroom will host an informational Q&A for students and available parents at Northeast on Friday, September 28th at 10:15am. The Nature’s Classroom Camping Trip has been a 5th grade tradition at Northeast for nearly 20 years. A 4-day/3-night outdoor education program, Nature’s Classroom is often the highlight of many of our students’ elementary school careers. The info session will include a slideshow and a discussion of Nature’s Classroom activities. 5th grade students will attend the meeting and all interested parents should feel free to attend, as well. If you’re the parent of a 4th or 5th grader, this is your chance to find out more about the program. The info session will not include details on costs. A more finance-focused meeting will occur later in October. Please contact Mrs. Liner with any questions.

9/20: Open House Night at Northeast

Northeast Open House Night is Thursday, 9/20. This is a chance for you to meet your teacher and learn more about grade level expectations and class routines. Due to the Yom Kippur holiday, open house for all grade levels is on the same day. The school has staggered the time of each grade’s open house in an attempt to alleviate some of chaos of crowds and parking issues. Please note the time of your child’s open house. And don’t forget to come early or stay late to check out the Scholastic Book Fair in the gymnasium which will be open 5:30-8pm. A portion of all sales will go to support enrichments at Northeast. 9/18-21: The Northeast Fall Book Fair is Back!

It’s time to wander into the Enchanted Forest at this year’s Northeast School Book Fair! The fair will be held in the Northeast gym on 9/18 (8am-3pm),
9/20 (8am-3pm), and 9/21 (8am-1pm, 6-6:30 pm, & 8-8:30pm… before and after Parent Open House Night).

The Book Fair is always a popular fundraiser for our school and we need volunteers to help make it happen. Check out the schedule to volunteer when your child’s class visits the Fair during the school day or just sign up to volunteer when you have an hour or two to spare. Chess Club is BACK!

Chess Club is back! The Northeast PTO is pleased to sponsor the 2018 Fall Chess Club, taught by Merritt Nesin! This fall we will be offering a Monday class and will add a Tuesday class if there is enough interest. Classes are open to all 2nd-5th graders and begins Monday, September 17th. It will continue every Monday for 10 weeks (with the exception of Columbus Day 10/8 and Veterans Day 11/12) through December 3rd. If added, Tuesday classes will begin September 18th and continue every Tuesday for 10 weeks (with the exception of Election Day 11/6). Chess Club meets in the Media Center from 2:45 until 4:15 pm. Teachers will dismiss students from their classrooms to the Media Center and parents must pick up their child at 4:15 pm in the Media Center. There is no after-school bus transportation.

The cost is $50 for the fall session. All levels of players are welcome. There will be lessons on the rules of chess for beginners, and lessons on strategies for those who are more advanced. Sportsmanship and thinking will be stressed. Please download the flyer for more information on registration.

Flex Academies Registration Starts at 7am on 9/4

Don’t forget! Flex Academies after school program registration starts Tuesday, September 4th at 7am. Registration is online–  class details & pricing is online, as well. Space is limited, so classes are first-come-first-serve. If you prefer to sign up over the phone, please contact Gena Russo. Flex Academies provides one full scholarship per class. 9/6 & 9/7: SPS All-School Musical Auditions for Grades 5-12

Auditions for the 2018 Stamford All-School Musical’s production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka will this Thursday, September 6 and Friday, September 7 at Rippowam Middle School from 2:30-6:00pm.
