Makerspace Is Coming to Northeast!

makerspace_word_cloudMakerspaces are popping up everywhere, and now, Northeast has its very own. Our Makerspace will allow students to explore STEM-based concepts, encouraging kids to design, experiment, build and invent as they engage in science, engineering and tinkering activities. The Makerspace will evolve through the years, but will open with four main stations: a construction/building station, a stop-motion animation station, a crafting station, and a robotics/programming station. The PTO is collecting items for these stations and future stations. Items most immediately needed include duct tape, paper recyclables like toilet and paper towel rolls, tissue boxes, miscellaneous paper and envelopes, cardboard, etc.

In addition, if you have any (new or gently-used) building toys such as Keva Structures, Strawbees, or K’NEX sets, we could definitely use these in the Makerspace. A box will be placed in the main office to collect all items.

As we grow the Makerspace, the PTO will continue to collect all the items listed above, as well as any of the following: old electronics that kids can take apart and try to rebuild, gently-used Legos, marble runs, robotic/programming toys, and a sewing machine. Have something else you think the Makerspace could use? Please contact Carin Kalt or Maya Noren with any questions.

Got a Great Brain Buster Idea?

before-after-clubhouseNortheast is gearing up for another successful Brain Busters program. But we need your help! This extended after-school program offers Northeast students the opportunity to explore new subjects. In past years, students have enjoyed sports programs, language and math classes, as well as classes focused on art, nature and animals. Brain Busters is looking for parent volunteers to lead Fall programs on Mondays and/or Thursdays. Please share your talents with our Northeast students. If you are interested, contact Yasmin Tirado with a description of your proposed program and the number of students that could attend.
